The demand for psychological care in middle age and old age

Abstract

The study investigates whether there was an increase of adults in middle age and old age attended in a service-school of psychology, from 2005 and 2014, and the reasons for demand for psychological care. Of the 3511 records provided, we analyzed the reasons of 18 elderly and 34 adults in middle age. The proportion of customers in middle age and old age did not increase in the period studied. The main reasons for demand in the sector were: depressive and anxiety symptoms, loss of independence, cognitive impairments, comorbidities and medical referral, family and marital conflict.
