Abstract

The paper presents a discussion on the status of Identity in political debates and struggles related to gender and sexuality. Considering that the effectiveness of the protection of rights has occurred around the naming and identification of minority groups, we briefly compare the ways in which such social issues were addressed in the past and present. We propose the existence of a significant change with respect to the space of eroticism and sexual practices in social discourse and the installation of an identity rationality, whose limits we would like to point out. From the Lacanian theory of discourse an analysis of such identity principle will be formalized, seeking other possible paths to a social critique of sexual and gender normativity.
