The purpose of this paper is to contrast the theory about disciplinary society, controlsociety and symbolic violence with the main characteristics of the Chilean society
today. To fulfil this goal, I suggest to identify and analyse a few examples of Chilean
behaviour –although some of then are not exclusively Chilean– which I believe can
be seen as cases of symbolic violence normalized regarding the silent empire of the
market.
