GET OUT OF OBSOLESCENCE – REUSE OF THE KITSCH IN THE POSTDICTATORIAL CHILEAN CULTURE

Abstract

his article analizes, through different theories relative to the modern esthetic and the art’s job, the kitsch visual phenomenon and the camp esthetic predilection, developed in the Chile’s contemporary and post-dictatorship cultural context, from the revision of the artistic production Videoclip (2011), of the actresses group Lágrimas, Celos y Dudas. Kitsch, observed as the opposite of the abandoned by the art, mimesis, is the main investigation’s focus in this article, that searches in its modes and origins, having as aim analize the phenomenon’s linkages with the cultural scene in which it is taken again. For that aim, theorical relations are established between the visual elements of Videoclip and the death of the nature, the new, the Vanguard’s political compromise, inter alia. The analysis shows the permanence of the nature’s death issues for the art, which without nature, manages the visual speeches around the fiction. Also, the reviewed production evidences how the esthetic can acquire a political function on periods like the Military Dictatorship in Chile. The return of kitsch to the current chilean culture raises a conduct of reuse of stereotypes and contraptions rooted in the colective memory in pursuit of the elaboration of a esthetic based in the activation of visual waste.
