Abstract

The present paper intends to address the idea of expenditure in relation to the artistic experience. We will investigate the principles  of violence, interdicts and transgression based on the philosophical propositions of Georges Bataille. In this sense, we take as an artistic reference the work of Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch, who revives mythological and religious elements of celebration and profound affirmation of existence through the sublimation of suffering. Such sublimation would occur in the confrontation of death through the symbolic character of the devices in his “Theater of Orgies and Mysteries” (Das Orgien Mysterien Theater).

KEYWORDS: expenditure; performance; death; erotism.
