Abstract

This article addresses the topic of grassroots innovation from a literature review. Considering that grassroots innovation is an emerging topic in academic research, this study aimed to verify the discussion on the theme and to settle inconsistencies in the literature through critical analysis and integrative synthesis. Seven characteristics and five possible misconceptions linked to the theme were structured and are described in the results discussion section. In addition, a research agenda was proposed with five suggestions for future research and a list of four potential actions of practical implications for actors involved in a grassroots innovation process. Even with limitations, it is assumed that this research has theoretical contributions as to its results, in addition to practical application as to the suggestions of actions to be developed by actors linked to a process of grassroots innovation.
