Descolonização dos saberes africanos: reflexões sobre história e cultura africana no contexto da lei 10.639/03

Abstract

This article aims at making a brief reflection on African understandings generated from colonial context. The intent is to demonstrate how Eurocentric ideological theories built an understanding about Africa supported on historical forgeries and even myths that served as source to the stereotyped images about the Continent and its peoples and that still surround our speeches and practices nowadays. Based on the ideological structure prevalent within colonialism, imperialism and the racist speech, we start from the principle that a critic conscience of the intellectual effects of the Eurocentric legacy, that justified and legitimated colonialism, is essential to understand the combination of negative contemporary representations about African history and culture(s).
