Émile Durkheim in his book “The Rules of Sociological Method”, first published in 1895, argued that social facts should be considered as things. The study of sociology must, in his view, be based on observation. A merely external observation, without the influence of the observer, ie, without interference or preconceived ideas. This method requires rules which begins with the selection of objects that will compose the group noted, the organization of these objects and finally an analysis of the characteristics of interest, allowing, usually by inductive reasoning to arrive at a conclusion.Metrics
