Abstract

The hypothesis raised in this paper is of the complexinterdependence and mixing (or miscegenation) as inquire ofcategories of national identity, national culture, and relatedrepresentations of multiculturalism and tolerance, which presentaffinities among them to the conception of state sovereignty. Wecriticize the tendency of historiography that tries to separate theaffirmation of national sovereignty with the capitalist expansionismbeyond borders. The modern process of building state/buildingsociety goes in the opposite direction of sovereign consolidation.The production of goods for marketing was benefited by the stateconfiguration, at the same time that was pari passu reorientedtowards the temporal and spatial correspondence of investmentsand commerce.
