Abstract

This article discusses the memories and early life of the Black writerCarolina Maria de Jesus. The investigation focus primarily onmemorial sources, predominantly Diario de Bitita, published afterJesus´ death. The examination will comprehend the time she wasborn, in 1914, up to 1937, interlude in which she moved to the cityof Sao Paulo. Ahead of her time, the writer approached racism as ahard and contradictory issue, redefining it over and over in herwork.
