Based on the assumption that water scarcity and contamination deepen situations of extreme poverty, this article aims to assess the current situation of availability and management of water and sanitation in Brazil, in order to ascertain whether the growing income inequality and the social polarization, reinforced by neoliberal policies and social tensions associated with uncertainties, threaten the economic and social sustainability provided for in the development model proposed by Agenda 2030. An inductive methodology was used, based on basic strategic, descriptive investigations, based on bibliographic and documentary research. Through the analysis of indicators and facts, the work concludes how incipient the basic sanitation policy is in Brazil, being extremely unlikely that the goals established by Agenda 2030 will be realized.Downloads
