Abstract

Based on the Gramscian assumption that emphasizes the role of the intellectual in the articulation of social meaning, we conduct a critical analysis of Filipe G. Martins’ speech with the intention of (de)constructing salient elements in the Bolsonarist discursive-structure, as mainly referred to the signifier ‘democracy’. Exclusionary and horizontal, Bolsonarism formulates a significance of sovereignty that, while intending to reframe the formal frameworks of liberal democracy, structures in opposition to the democratic ethos.
