Abstract

This article analyzes the relationship between the mode of insertion of Haitian immigrants in the Brazilian labor market and the social conditions of access to housing, covering public shelters, temporary housing offered by employing companies and the formal and informal housing market. This work is based on an ethnographic study in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. In this context, the processes of absorption of Afro-Caribbean labor by the slaughterhouse industry in unqualified functions are analyzed, with the aim of critically reflecting on its developments in the organization of the subjects' migratory projects. The relationship between assistance policies and the techniques of agency and control of the Haitian workforce is explored, in line with the demands for constant renewal of this workforce in the meat industry.
