Abstract

The novel sustainable investment index is introduced in this study to examine the role of sustainable investment in alleviating income inequality in society (SDG-10). The study also highlights the role of channel variables like green finance and green innovation in the relationship between sustainable investment and income inequality. The cluster regression analysis is conducted by using the data of Chinese listed firms from 2010 to 2020. The findings reveal that sustainable investment significantly negatively affects income inequality.  We find that green finance faster the influence of sustainable investment on income inequality. Finally, the results indicate that green innovation accelerates sustainable investment by promoting new startups and job opportunities, which contribute to combating income disparity in society. Hence, this study underlines the pivotal role of sustainable investment practices in promoting green finance and encouraging green innovation to effectively reduce income inequality in society.
