Exploitation of memory and attention in accelerated times
The case of Rewind

Today, we live in a society that has been affected by the advent of the Internet in a seemingly irreversible way. Since the normalization of digital environments and hyperconnection is not socially established without leaving consequences, this paper investigates the acceleration of time, subjective perceptions of temporality, and memory impasses in the face of technological advances in digital environments as a result of this normalization. Specifically from the perspective of critical theory of technology and psychoanalytic methodology focused on communication, this paper investigates persuasion techniques in the digital environment, the attention economy, and the use of artificial intelligence that leaves subjective traces on people, using as an object the technology developed by the company Rewind. Finally, we emphasize how economic and social power structures sustain technological dependence, and how our consciousness and ways of being in the world directly reflect the acceleration in the machinic pace of technologies produced today.
