This work seeks to identify fragments of the religious in Guimarães Rosa´smasterpiece, The Devil to pay in the Backlands; a religiousness that plays a part in the everydaylife of the characters in a very particular, not structured, ambiguous, clear and dark ways. Therefore, the analysis goes beyond the love triangle involving Riobaldo, Diadorim and Otacília, and goes even further, not remaining simply on reflections about life, the pathways and thebacklands. The work tries, instead, to extract, from a wider scenario, what is related with thereligious, nonetheless intimately connected to moral and existential questioning.Downloads
