ALGUMAS REFLEXÕES SOBRE O CONTESTADO

The considerations of the text express a new reading regarding the “Guerra do Contestado” (“War of the Contested”): that occurred in the mountainous zone of Santa Catarina; the contested area was a dispute area between the states of Paraná and Santa Catarina. The combats, that lasted for four years — from 1912 to 1916 — were an answer of the country ones to an unjust social order, or a “disorder”). This article intends to appreciate the mythical symbolic universe from the point of view of the Sciences of Religion (therefore non prejudiced) for a consideration of interpretations from the social-religious point of view. Besides, its analogies that contribute to the understanding of the basic work of Duglas Teixeira Monteiro: “Os errantes do novo século: um estudo sobre o surto milenarista do Contestado” (“The wandering of the new century: a study on the millenary outbreak of the Contested”).
