The religion of the orixás, scattered about the Americas more than in its native land, is a very complex system that claims for a sophisticated vocabulary so that one can get closer to a suitable comprehension of the phenomenon. This experience cannot be just explained. It should be understood in the context of the culture. These gods, sometimes understood diabolical figures, terrify and fascinate us.
