Abstract

Technology allied to science has become something fundamental and integral in our lives, for this reason, the philosophy of the Hans Jonas Technique is a relevant and important topic in our days. Among the characteristics of modern technology, Jonas highlights the “formal dynamics of technology”, which corresponds to a movement that advances intermittently in new directions, creating needs and desires that drive other innovations. In dentistry, as well as in other areas of health, this movement is real and palpable. According to Jonas, modern technology has changed the “nature of human action”, and therefore, a new ethics, which has responsibility as its principle, is essential. This article aims to reflect on current dental practice, considering the thought of the philosopher Hans Jonas as a reference, and a possible application of his Principle of Responsibility in the field of dentistry.
