Abstract

Hallux valgus refers to a deformity due to valgus deviation of the hallux accompanied by a medial deviation of the first metatarsal head. Inappropriate footwear, genetic factors, body mass index and other risk factors are for the deformity. Radiographic examination can be of great aid to the diagnosis of Hallux valgus, because in addition to showing the points of repair of structural changes, also helps in the choice of treatment. Objective: to characterize patients with Hallux valgus attending the outpatient clinics of the Hospital Regional and Hospital Santa Lucinda by analyzing the angles of Hallux valgus, intermetatarsal angle, angle of the first metatarsal head st nd angle medial cuneiform/1 metatarsal and medial cuneiform/2 metatarsal and possible relationships with several variables: age, race and gender. Methods: we collected radiographs’ pictures of the 41 patients’ feet. Results: the group of this study is predominantly women, with the age group 50 - 55 years. The classification of severity presented in the feet of patients attending the Hospital Santa Lucinda and Hospital Regional occurs through the intermetatarsal and Hallux valgus angles that we can consider them as moderate. There is no significant difference between the right and left feet studied separately. The analysis showed significant difference between direct and left st feet for intermetatarsal angles (p = 0.0459), medial cuneiform/1 nd metatarsal (p < 0.0001) and medial cuneiform/2 metatarsal (p < 0.0001) when compared in terms of ethnic groups (white x non-white).
