Abstract

ABSTRACT Acute arterial occlusion (AAO) is the abrupt cessation of arterial blood flow leading to an acute ischemia of tissues previously irrigated. This condition can be caused by a stroke on the surface of an atherosclerotic plaque, and plunger or occlusion of a previous arterial graft. This case report deals with an elderly patient with atrial fibrillation, who had an embolic event that led to an (AAO) in the popliteal territory. The patient sought medical care later, developing an extensive ischemic area, and was submitted to revascularization of lower extremity which fully recovered his limb.
