Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological situation of systemic lupus erythematosus in the state of Ceará in 2015. Method: This is a quantitative retrospective study, in which all records of medical consultations carried out at the Reference Center for Dermatology Dona Libânia (CDERM), Fortaleza, Ceará, in 2015, using the variables: name, gender, age, date of the consultation, medical record number, presumptive or confirmed diagnosis, other associated conditions and the patient’s frequency at CDERM (if the first time or when returning to the institution’s medical care). Results: Of the 19,576 patients analyzed, 320 patients were diagnosed with lupus, representing a prevalence of 1.63% in the service, of which 185 were diagnosed with discoid lupus. Conclusion: Cutaneous lupus is a disease of extreme importance and significant prevalence in our country, but it still lacks consistency of epidemiological data, requiring larger multicenter and epidemiological studies, both in Ceará and Brazil, for an adequate evaluation of the prevalence of this disease.
