Abstract

ABSTRACT Chronic Otitis Media (COM) is a pathology frequently seen by Otolaryngologists and General Physicians. The complications of the COM can be divided in intratemporal (mastoiditis, petrositis, labyrinthitis, labyrinthine fistulae and facial paralysis) and intracranial (meningitis, lateral sinus thrombophlebitis, extradural abscess, subdural empyema and otitic hydrocephalus). The proposal of this paper is to show a case presented at Conjunto Hospitalar de Sorocaba and through a brief revision of the current literature, alert medical colleagues of the importance of the precocious diagnosis preventing potentially fatal complications.
