Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of resveratrol extract (RSV) on the metabolic profile and on autonomic and cardiovascular recovery after submaximal aerobic exercise in individuals with type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Ten participants of both sexes, aged 20 to 59 years, were evaluated. Biochemical assessment and cardiovascular parameters were analyzed, including diastolic (DBP) and systolic blood pressure (SBP), heart rate (HR), and heart rate variability (HRV). Participants underwent submaximal aerobic exercise for 20 minutes after ingestion of either a placebo (starch – 700 mg divided over 24 hours) or experimental treatment (resveratrol – 700 mg divided over 24 hours). For statistical analysis, linear methods of HRV analysis in the time and frequency domains were applied. Results: Resveratrol supplementation did not affect the biochemical profile of the participants (glycemia: p = 0.6435; cholesterol: p = 0.9371; triglycerides: p = 0.8935), but it showed a significant difference in DBP at the 10th, 40th, and 60th minutes of recovery (p < 0.0001; p = 0.0030;
p < 0.0001) after submaximal aerobic exercise. In addition, a reduction in HR was observed at the 20th minute of recovery (p < 0.0001), as well as a reduction in SDNN at the 60th minute (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: In summary, resveratrol supplementation showed potential to influence cardiovascular and autonomic parameters (DBP, SBP, HR, and HRV) in the studied group. Therefore, further studies with larger samples, longer follow-up periods, and different dosages are needed to elucidate the effects of this polyphenol on autonomic and ...
