Phénoménologie du langage et analyse sémiotique du discours

Abstract

J.-C. Coquet’s “semiotics of the uttering instances” stems from a phenomenology of language that stresses the constitutive ambivalence of its object and the way how language splits into two complementary and hierarchically organised dimensions, namely phusis and logos. From this perspective, discourse constitutes the place where a plurality of enunciating agencies manifest themselves and contribute to shape — for the receiver — the semiotic identity of the uttering instance, producer of the discourse (or “author” of the text), thereby delineating its relationship to the world. Instead of considering only (as is often the case elsewhere) “cognitive” predicates (the logos), this way of approaching discourse permits to combine the cognitive dimension with “somatic” predicates which, at the same time as they express phusis, represent the phenomenological basis of the logos. A brief analysis of a passage of I. Fleming’s Goldfinger is meant to show the interest, for semiotic analysis, of integrating the universe of the phusis.
