Abstract

As creator of the International Committee for Artistic Solidarity with Chile (CISAC), Mário Pedrosa forged a whole network of affections, artistic manifestations, and political actions, where he was a key driver of the process and articulator of a plot that operated under the same principles that he promoted: solidarity, affection, and the gratuitousness of selfless support. This article arises mainly from our systematization and critical approach to Pedrosa's letters with CISAC members and artists from around the world. With this examination we seek to give due relevance to the role of Mário Pedrosa as a transcendent intellectual in the Latin American context, who installed debates and reflections that permeated his work in charge of CISAC. We believe that the actions of CISAC and Pedrosa are charged with unusual power, which is why these reflections that we propose open up possibilities for new articulations in our present.
