O ensino dos esportes e a formação do "homem novo" em Cuba socialista

In this article, we seek to analyze and discuss the history of the Escuelas de Iniciación Deportiva (EIDEs), which were established by the Cuban State in the mid-1960s, with the aim to promote the training of athletes through school sport. The historical outline of this article begins in 1964, when the first EIDE appeared, lasting until the end of the 1970s. To support our analyses and reflections about the EIDEs, we relied on some publications of Cuban press, especially the sports press. Based on the results of the investigation, we concluded that the sports initiation in revolutionary Cuba aimed to raise the technical level of Cuba athletes and, simultaneously, the formation of the “new man” in the sports field.
