Abstract

One of the biggest problems, regarding the black population even today, is the escape from its historicity to go through a process of affirmation and be recognized by white men or women. The use of masks, that dis-guise these characteristics, continue to be employed, being seen as an attempt to approach a race that often places itself in a position of ontological universality. That said, this essay aims to present one of the problems contained in the book Black Skin, White Masks by Frantz Fanon. Thus, the concept of recognition is addressed as content, explained by the author, as a counterpoint to Hegel. Followed by an explanation of how black is placed in the non-being zone, through the lack of this recognition that is universalized by white. Also showing how this non-ontological place still persists in the 21st century, with the permanence of racist institutions and the difficulty of black people’s social ascension Which, finally, leads to the solution paths that can be presented: as the withdrawal from the universal position and the intersection of body and mind.
