Abstract

Consecrated life comes in many different ways in the current ecclesiastical legislation. The Code of Canon Law of 1983 and the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope John Paul II in 1994 canonically shaped forms of ecclesial life of this state. Initially, it is necessary to consider the theological and legal aspects that underlie the canonical legislation. Subsequently, we present the first and most comprehensive model of the consecrated life: religious institutions. The code uses this form as a reference for its tradition and importance in the Church. Apart from this, there are secular institutes which are characterized by the presence in the secular world. Closer to religious institutes, societies of apostolic life, are characterized by the ministry and the issuing of some sacred bonds. Note the primary role of the diocesan bishop in the origin and continuity of religious life, who accepts the new institutes, consecrated virgins, hermits and his subject of religious apostolate that depends on in a particular church.
