Abstract

This article analyzes the interactional positionings (DAVIES & HARRÉ,1999) of Filmow social network participants when commenting onaspects of gender and sexuality addressed in Almodovar’s All About mymother, highlighting those that refer to transgender characters. We usean analytical tool that focuses on the contextualization of indexical cues(WORTHAM, 2001). By understanding gender through the perspective ofperformativity (BUTLER, 1990), we use Queer Theories as a theoreticalbasis. The study indicates the fi lm drives participants to refl ect on nonhegemonicdiscursive identity performances, even though participants donot always take transgressive positionings. Then we suggest reasons forthe diffi culties of mobilizing transgressive discourses.
