Abstract

I defend the relevance of the application of the concept of ethnicity in the area of New Literacy Studies for an in-depth understanding of phenomena bearing aspects of hybridism and cultural tension inherent in intercultural dialogue. I present a report of field research developed in a participative way in order to make clearer the form of application of this concept in the area of New Literacy Studies. I conclude that the concept of ethnicity is rich for the understanding of situations involving invisibility factors typical of conflict zones, propitiating also a better understanding of the bakhtinian concepts of dialogism, polyphony and conflict arena.
