This review examines the dissertation Instrumentos Musicais nas Línguas Bantu e Herança no Português do Brasil , by Alzenir Menezes, highlighting its contributions and limitations in the fields of historical linguistics and ethnomusicology. The work presents a comprehensive lexical investigation of musical instrument names in Bantu languages and their projection into Brazilian Portuguese, drawing on thematic reconstructions, the BLR3 database, and an onomasiological framework. The chapters dedicated to Bantu languages demonstrate methodological rigor and rich documentation, whereas the chapter focused on the Brazilian context reveals significant gaps in source usage and engagement with local communities. The review underscores the author's interdisciplinary approach and her articulation of language, music, and cultural identity, while also pointing out analytical asymmetries and the absence of updated data. Despite these limitations, the dissertation stands as a relevant contribution and opens promising paths for future research on the African linguistic heritage in the diaspora.
