Abstract

A cross-sectional study was carried out in order to investigate the noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) in a printing industry. The noise evaluation was based on the technical criteria of ISO 1999. The Merluzzi’s criterion was adopted to classify the audiograms. The highest noise levels (leq.) were registered in the rotary press sector. However, according to the diary exposition level (Lex), the highest value was found in the folding machines sector. Of the 144 workers evaluated 39% reported NIHL. Both practical examples of noise control and the guidelines to draw up a Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) were addressed as an aid to improve the work environment.
