The reconstruction of the linguistic process in the relation between teacher and student
Abstract
This paper analyses the nature of linguistic relations between the hearing teacher, who is not fluent in Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), and the deaf student, who is in the stage of language acquisition. Next, it focuses on the difficulties that these deaf students face in school, as discussed by other authors who indicate the need for a radical transformation in the Brazilian educational structure. The author defends the idea that part of, though not the full, solution for promoting effective teaching relations between the teacher and his deaf students lies in the teacher’s knowledge and fluent use of LIBRAS in the classroom. Finally, supported by a Baktinian framework, the author centers the process of acquisition of knowledge in the realm of discursive relations between students and the teacher, closing with the affirmation of the impossibility of this process happening outside of linguistic occurrences.Downloads
