Abstract

The assistance to the deaf in bilingual education approach has been supported by the deaf community and by several professionals in this field of study (teachers, speech pathologists, audiologists, pshychologists and interpreters). However, for the development of bilingual education it s necessary that hearing families and that professionals dealing with the deaf learn sign language. The main purpose of this study is to discuss features related to the teaching of Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) as a second language to hearing people, in other to contribute to the implementation of bilingual education for the deaf.
