Phonologic processes in children with Down syndrome

The Down Syndrome is described as a chromosomic unbalance characterized by the trisomy of the chromosome 21. It´s easily found in children with this disease, different phonoaudiologic alterations, mainly those connected with their development language. This research aims at identifying which processes are present in the speech of children carriers of this mongolism, so that it could be made a comparison with the processes found in the speech of the so called, normal children. Children between five and eight years old were selected for this research, frequent members of the Association of Parents and Friends of Disabled People (APAE). It was analyzed, through these results, the frequency of this phonoaudiologic processes, systematic and non-systematically, in the speech of all children evaluated. The reduction process of the consonant encounter was the most frequently found in all children, followed by the process of erasing the final liquid.Downloads
