Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate part of the production of knowledge about the interface between education and speech therapy. Methods: Analysis of journal articles in the area of Speech Therapy (Revista Distúrbios da Comunicação, Revista Brasileira da Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia, Pró-Fono: revista de atualização científica e Revista CEFAC) in the period 1986 to 2009 in the variables: time, and subject area, from the selection of reading titles and abstracts that addressed the themes speech therapy, school, education, health education and health teacher. Results: Among 1810 articles published, 210 (11.6%) addressed the topic researched for five years and there was an increase from 1996 to 2000. The selected articles were grouped into sub-areas: (Speech-Language-Hearing-Motion orofacial-School/ Education), which showed a linear pattern of growth for five years, with emphasis on language (89 - 42.3%); of these, 91% were classified in the qualitative category “Survey of speech-language aspects,” a category that was highlighted (153-72.9%) compared to the others. It is perceived dominance of the medical model and a tendency to seek the school for health studies of the school population and conceive it as an area of application of control measures and disease prevention. Conclusion: Continuous growth since the 80s, a trend towards publication for five years, in articles that discuss the interface between education and speech therapy; emphasis on studies of aspects of school development, reinforcing the dominance of research and work guided by the clinical perspective.
