FUTURE ENGLISH TEACHERS AND THEIR CONCEPTS ABOUT LANGUAGE, TEACHING AND LEARNING

This article aims at discussing spontaneous and scientific concepts of language, teaching and learning held by future English language teachers. These results were obtained through the ongoing PhD project “English language teacher education at a Letters course in the north of Brazil: the coconstruction of practical-theoretical knowledge”. The instruments used to collect data were questionnaire, interview and autobiography. The analysis, carried out in light of the sociocultural perspective, shows that many future language teachers hold traditional concepts of language, teaching and learning, while a few have conceptions that are similar to the sociocultural perspective.
