Keywords:

This text aims to discuss issues related to English as a global language and its role in teacher education, both from the perspective of teaching materials, and the current realities of World Englishes. In order to debate this role of the English language, we approach how teachers in two different contexts conceive the teaching of this language in hypermodern times. The data analyzed were generated in two specialization courses in English language teaching, one in the northeast and the other in southeastern Brazil. The results point to aspects about their experiences with these themes, emerging elements to be considered in teacher education courses.
