ENGLISH PROFICIENCY AND TEACHERS EDUCATION: A DISCUSSION ABOUT FUTURE TEACHERS’ VIEWS

This article presents the partial results of an ongoing study that focused on the perception of English teachers to be on the notion of proficiency and assessment. Thirteen participants took an international (mock) proficiency test and answered a questionnaire. The objective was to verify the level of proficiency indicated and the level that the participants believed they had and identify the main aspects that guide the assessment process of these teachers. It is a case study which showed that most participants did not know their proficiency level and believe that written tests are still the best way to assess students.
