Digital inclusion of older people: report of experiences using educational software

This research was performed under the extension project "Computer Workshops for Seniors" at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. This project has already existed for over 10 years and has served approximately 500 elderly people of the local community. The elderly want to belong to the digital world, using computer and the communication and information tools available on the Web. This article reports on the activities of workshops digital inclusion of older people using educational software to facilitate closer interaction and demystify the elderly with the computer, taken into account the declines due to age on motor skills and cognition. This study involved 50 participants with an average age of 62, all of them literate. The results showed that the use of educational software helped the elderly in this demystification and appropriation of concepts related to computer and information and communication tools available on the Web process.
