Abstract

The proportion of Brazilian retired economically active/occupied is more than 30% (IBGE/PNAD). The literature usually explains this fact by the need for increasing income. The psychology of work argues there are others reasons, maybe more important than money. It was investigated the influence of psychosocial factors in the decision of returning to job from 217 retired (140 Male; 77 Female), between 40 and 82 years old. Results show that the main reason is the need to feel productive. These found support the literature that claims the importance of the work to constitution of the identity.
