The aim of the study was to analyze the meanings that the old women - participants in an EJA Program - attribute to education. Qualitative research was used, as well as bibliographic and field surveys, as well as observation and interview techniques. The perceptions were grouped into three categories: leisure/sociability, citizenship/belonging, freedom/autonomy. The meanings were varied, but all pointed out the need to expand educational spaces for women, especially in old age.
