Considering the choice of institutionalizing the elderly and the importance of personal care, the aim of this paper is to identify factors associated to sarcopenia in institutionalized older adults. This is a cross-sectional study, the frequency of sarcopenia was 34,7% and the associated factors were: older age, female sex, low education level, compromised functional capacity and nutritional risk. This study showed that identifying related factors to sarcopenia would allow early diagnosis and the possibility to plan adequate interdisciplinary interventions.
