This study aims to characterize the professional practices of occupational therapists in view of the guidelines recommended by Public Policies referring to long-stay institutions for the elderly (ILPI). This is a qualitative study in which a documentary analysis of the Public Policies and narrative review was carried out to characterize the insertion of the occupational therapists in ILPI. It was observed that there is a dialogue between the occupational therapists and the guidelines provided in the policies, however there is a need to broaden views.
