Homosexuality and family conflicts under the interface of the seventh art

Abstract

The family is the first institution in which a subject is inserted. The affections that arise from this relationship are diverse and striking. In contact with a family that is refractory to the experience of homosexuality, the subject finds itself surrounded by discourses that impact on his subjectivity. The purpose of this article is to analyze how homosexuality has been treated in a problematic and pathological way by various fields of knowledge, highlighting how the psychoanalytic perspective brings to light other conceptions of sexuality, based on the theory of sexual drive developed by Sigmund Freud. Such theory unravels the sexual drive as distinct from instinct, and points to one of its fundamental characteristics, namely, that the sexual drive achieves its satisfaction through objects, and that these are what is most variable in the drive. Based on secondary data, the material was chosen through bibliographical research. As well as the analysis of some points from the film I Killed My Mother, by Canadian director Xavier Dolan, which serves as a device to demonstrate how artistic productions capture and portray this malaise.
