About the Journal

FOCUS AND SCOPE
With the support of CNPq and FAPERJ, the INCT Observatório das Metrópoles has been editing the Cadernos Metrópole journal since the late 1990s, in partnership with the Pontíficia Universidade Católica de São Paulo – PUCSP. With the aim of disseminating the results of comparative analysis between metropolises, the journal publishes texts by researchers and scholars of urban issues, which dialogue with the debate on the effects of socio-spatial transformations in conditioning the political-institutional system of cities and the challenges posed the adoption of management models based on urban governance.
Cadernos Metrópole constitute an invitation to reflection, debate and research on contemporary metropolises and are an important reference for researchers in the areas of Urban and Regional Planning, Architecture, Urbanism, Geography, Demography and Social Sciences, standing out among the other journals in these areas, due to their interdisciplinary nature.
Cadernos Metrópole journal focuses on debating issues linked to urbanization processes and the urban issue, in the different forms it takes in contemporary reality.
The Journal is published every four months, with editions published on the first business day of the month, corresponding to January, May and September.
This is a journal aimed at the academic community in general, especially in the areas of Architecture and Urbanism, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Demography and Social Sciences.
The Journal publishes texts by researchers and scholars on urban issues, which engage with the debate on the effects of socio-spatial transformations on conditioning the political-institutional system of cities and the challenges posed to the adoption of management models based on urban governance.
The Journal is licensed under a Creative Commons License of the type Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International. This license allows others to remix, adapt, and build upon the material for non-commercial purposes. Although new materials must give appropriate credit and may not be used for commercial purposes, users are not obliged to license derived materials under the same terms.
The Journal offers free and immediate access to its content, as it follows the principle that making scientific knowledge available to the public for free enables greater international democratization of knowledge.
The Journal does not charge submission, publication or any other kind of fees on its processes. It is a scientific vehicle targeted at the Brazilian scientific community.
The Cadernos Metrópole journal is made up of a thematic nucleus, with a specific call for work, and one of free themes related to the areas mentioned. Thematic texts must be sent within the established deadline and must meet the requirements required in the call. Free texts will have a continuous flow of receipt.
The editors invite professionals in the field to organize the issue for each thematic edition. Organizers must prepare the text for the call for work with a maximum of 300 words.
The journal publishes texts in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
From 2021, v. 23, no. 50, Cadernos Metrópole magazine will publish its articles in the original language and in English. Translation costs will be the sole responsibility of the authors.

SECTION POLICIES
Free theme
Articles whose theme does not fit into any of the calls for articles opened by the journal.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS
The articles will be submitted for consideration by the members of the Editorial Board and ad hoc consultants to issue opinions.
Articles will receive two evaluations and, if necessary, a third. The anonymity of both authors and reviewers will be respected.
The evaluation of manuscripts follows the options:
a) accept without restrictions
b) accept with corrections
c) submit again for evaluation
d) reject
The average evaluation time is 6 to 12 months from the date of submission until approval/rejection.
Reviewers reserve the right to issue comments/advice, aiming to improve the manuscript, respecting the style and opinion of the authors.
Manuscripts that receive evaluation (c) will have their submission rejected. For a new evaluation and possible publication, it will be necessary to begin a new process, with the submission of the revised manuscript.
Reviewers who detect any conflict of interest in analyzing the manuscript must inform the editors so that they can be reassigned to another work.
It will be up to the organizers of the edition and the Scientific Editors to make the final selection of the texts recommended for publication by the referees, taking into account their academic-scientific consistency, clarity of ideas, relevance, originality and timeliness of the topic.

OPEN ACCESS POLICY
This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater global democratization of knowledge.

ARCHIVING
This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a file system distributed among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration. Know more...

PUBLICATION ETHICS
The journal is unable to pay royalties or distribute reprints.
The journal does not apply submission, publication or any other fees to its processes.
The journal has a strict code of ethics in its scientific production, with total commitment from the professionals involved in the editorial process.
The journal uses plagiarism detection programs to identify and prevent the publication of articles in which research misconduct may have occurred.
