Abstract

Peripheral areas in Latin American cities have been historically marked by significant inequalities in mobility. However, nowadays, we observe an important restructuring in trip behaviors. The present paper aims at analyzing mobility inequalities in the peripheral areas of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte. We propose to assess how recent transformations observed in urban peripheries have contributed to the restructuring of daily mobility behaviors. Therefore, a quantitative analysis based on the Origin and Destination Survey is combined with qualitative interviews conducted with inhabitants of peripheries, in order to identify their main mobility strategies.
