Abstract

Dress Code is one of organizational culture artifacts. Scientific literature discusses a
number of controversies and doubts related to the management of corporate dress
code, this symbolic and instrumental artifact of organizational culture, which is
composed by a group of rules, imposed or suggested to its employees. This article
intends to analyze dress code polices in international organizations in service sector,
with presence in Brazil, comparing with theoretical discussions in organizational
culture. Research analyzed meetings, documents and processes related to
development of dress code policies in Auditing, International News Agency and
Consumer Finance company, (fictitious names), in São Paulo, between 2014 and
2015. The outcome of this material concluded that those organizations, in opposite of
researcher`s perception, are convinced of benefits in determining its employees dress
codes, emphasizing organizational image and internal power relations.
