Abstract

It has become notorious for the mobilization of thousands of people to honor the Carnival in São Paulo. As the event is a tourist attraction in the city, is considered grounds for government investment in public works. Given the importance of the carnival event, the complex structure of the associations and the high level of competitiveness in parades, this paper aims to explore the carnival as a source of innovation and organization. It is believed that the carnival event to be seen not only as entertainment but as a source of theories to the area of organizational studies. As the investigation includes an unusual object, the Samba Schools, the methodological procedure that was better fitted for an exploratory empirical nature, through case study and literature review. Leadership is responsible for an environment to encourage interaction and continuous learning, emphasizing the skills and abilities of the members as a means to promote innovative actions. It is understood that innovation requires a methodological process to be adopted and developed in organizations, but it was noticeable that the Vai Vai samba school, has historic environment conducive to innovation activities, which probably influences its performance in parades.
